At the Western International School of Shanghai, we invite families to participate in learning with their child during our “Come Learn with Us” sessions in the Early Years. During these sessions, the children and their parents learn together as the teachers facilitate learning engagements that target developing specific skills. This targeted development is shared with parents and, at the same time, guides parents with how they can best support the further development of these skills through inquiry at home.

Being a parent requires large doses of patience, perseverance, consistency, listening, and affectivity. Good parenting involves meeting children's basic needs, keeping them safe, showing warmth and love, providing the necessary stimulus for their development, and helping them reach their potential within a stable environment where they experience consistent guidance and boundaries.

At WISS, we believe strong home-school partnerships are essential to the success and well-being of our school’s ecosystem. Parental engagement positively impacts the educational achievement and development of our students. For this reason, WISS has created a calendar of parent engagement workshops to provide opportunities for parents to gain a deeper understanding for our school curriculum and our approach to student learning and development. This allows parents the knowledge and resources to better align home–school practices and support their child’s learning at home.

WISS started the new school year as a community with our first parent welcome event. For School leadership, it is always a pleasure to meet and gather with our families to create opportunities to form a cohesive school-parent relationship and to make our families, new and returning, feel at home and part of the WISS Community.
WISS Coffee Mornings are always a great opportunity to catch up, make new friends and connect with members of the parent community over freshly brewed coffee and delectable canapés.This event was an excellent opportunity for the parent community to connect and marked the first meet and greet with WISS's new Head of School, Mr. David Edwards.
Our dedicated Parent Ambassadors did an excellent job supporting the event. They welcomed all arriving families and helped create a warm and vibrant atmosphere.
