Sports Day at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) is an annual event that brings the school community together for a day of friendly competition and athletic fun. Every year, students are divided into different teams based on their grade level and assigned a team color. The teams then compete against each other in a variety of sports and games, culminating in a final relay race.
As a learning community, the Western International School of Shanghai shares the responsibility to help students achieve their academic goals, such as gaining their high school diploma or receiving those anticipated offer letters from top universities.
Ultimately, we aim to prepare students for life after WISS—for life outside of the classroom and experiences in the real world. The approaches to learning cultivated at WISS include social skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills, research skills, and self-management skills. These skills are relevant far beyond the confines of the IB Diploma or Career-Related Programmes and WISS itself. The time spent at school on these activities is just as crucial as the knowledge of mathematical equations and chemical reactions.
Education at the Western International School of Shanghai offers a holistic, student-centered approach to learning to expand conceptual understandings that will transfer across subjects and beyond the classroom.
Learning also extends beyond school hours as students participate in After-School Activity programs that encourage learners to invest their time in personal development that help expand their horizons and interests. The WISS After-School Activity Program offers more than an after school pastime. The program is designed to support our offer of a balanced curriculum that encourages students to explore their passions, develop their strengths, and acquire new skills. These are elements through which we nurture lifelong learners.
Today’s Tiger Pride goes to our WISS High School Girls Basketball team, which recently won the ACAMIS Basketball Tournament.
It is the first time WISS has participated in an Athletic Event at ACAMIS, and the results couldn’t be better. Achieving “Balance” is one of the ten attributes IB Learners acquire through a WISS Education. Discovering that state of equilibrium as a student where you effectively manage your study priorities and participation in sports is precisely what we as a school encourage.
At WISS, we believe that athletics is an integral part of the school setting. We are committed to offering team sports designed to broaden the experiences of our students. The WISS Athletics Program serves many purposes, offering students the opportunity to collaborate, communicate, build relationships, develop a healthy lifestyle while fostering sportsmanship by competing athletically on a local and international level.
The WISS Athletics Basketball teams recently participated in the ACAMIS competition, and both teams played with a TON of Tiger Spirit and Tiger Pride.
