The Aeronautics, Engineering, and Aviation Business pathway is a groundbreaking opportunity for students interested in aviation, air traffic control, aeronautical science, engineering, physics, and military and civilian aviation. Aeronautics, the newest IBCP pathway at the Western International School of Shanghai, enables students to engage in career-related learning while still in high school. WISS is exceptionally proud to be the 4th IBCP school worldwide to offer this exciting and competitive partnership with ERAU in Aeronautics.
This exciting pathway gives students an edge on the competition by allowing them to gain practical and applicable skills in a booming field that genuinely interests them. For students in the aeronautics pathway, the sky is the limit, quite literally. The lifelong and applicable skills that students gain through this pathway will enable them to work in aeronautics, with jobs ranging from pilot to flight engineer to defense industry design, amongst many exciting options.
Students gain knowledge in the classroom with riveting courses such as WEAX 201, a course in meteorology that includes applications to flight, and ENGR 101, an introduction to the interdisciplinary aspects of the engineering of aerospace systems! These incredibly advanced college-level courses give WISS IBCP students a head start. They will allow students to progress to higher education with 24 university credits already achieved by the end of Grade 12.
The support for students taking such rigorous courses is paramount, and to best support our CP-Aeronautics students, WISS has set up a mentorship system that will give students the guidance they need.
Aeronautics may be the newest IBCP pathway at WISS, but it’s far from being the only option. Students currently can choose from 4 different and exciting pathways if they decide to participate in the IBCP program. WISS is the only school in mainland China currently offering the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) as part of the full continuum of IB programmes.
IBCP at the Western International School of Shanghai is an excellent opportunity for Shanghai students who are passionate about Aeronautics, Art & Design, Business & Sustainability, and Sports. The IBCP’s flexible educational framework allows WISS to meet students’ needs, interests, and backgrounds.
The IBCP is a challenging two-year course for students aged 16-19; this unique framework is only found in 214 schools worldwide. The Career-related Programme is a framework of international education that incorporates the educational principles of the IB and IB’s vision into an exciting programme specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning.
IBCP students at Western International School of Shanghai engage with a rigorous program of study that genuinely interests them while gaining transferable and lifelong skills through each of our four pathways. IBCP requires the study of two to four IBDP courses alongside the career-related study and unique CP core.
Through the IBCP, WISS has partnered with top-ranking universities around the world, such as the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the Sustainability Management School (SUMAS), and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). All four of WISS’s pathways provide students entry into higher education after graduation.
No matter what field our students are interested in, we believe in giving them the tools, experience, and knowledge to excel – not only during their time at WISS but also in university and beyond. The IBCP gives students a stepping stone to gain practical, career-related studies before even graduating high school!
