The latest feature in our Greatness Starts With Attitude series shines a spotlight on Jiaxi Sun, a pivotal member of the faculty at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS). As a Chinese Language Teacher at WISS, Jiaxi's narrative embodies the core values of diversity, resilience, and unwavering commitment, establishing her as a revered figure within the school community.
At the heart of Jiaxi's story lies her profound appreciation for diversity. Surrounded by a multicultural environment at WISS, she views the myriad of cultures and perspectives as sources of inspiration. For Jiaxi, embracing diversity is not just about tolerance but about actively seeking the richness of different backgrounds, expanding horizons, and fostering a deeper understanding of the world.
In the latest installment of our series "Greatness Starts With Attitude," we spotlight Ben Ness, a remarkable teacher at the Western International School of Shanghai whose journey epitomizes the power of resilience, passion, and determination. Hailing from London, United Kingdom, Ben's path to greatness took root at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS), where he discovered his true calling and inspired countless others along the way.
Ben's story is one of transformation and self-discovery, shaped by his attitude towards life's challenges. His journey began at the tender age of 17 when he embarked on a voyage working for his father's international logistics and transport company. Sent on assignments across Europe and near Asia, Ben's initial exposure to the world ignited a passion for photography that would later become his driving force.
The Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) has a rich history of actively serving its community through a variety of impactful initiatives. One standout effort is the recent WISS Community Service Fair, which exemplifies the school's unwavering dedication to community engagement and social responsibility.
Community service at WISS transcends mere volunteerism; it is deeply ingrained in the school's academic curriculum. Students leverage their acquired knowledge and skills from academic courses to tackle real-world challenges, effectively bridging the gap between theory and practice. This hands-on educational approach equips students with the tools to address intricate societal issues and become proactive change-makers.
The Western International School of Shanghai values its partnership with families and looks forward to more interactive learning opportunities in the Early Years, focusing on holistic development and skill enhancement in outdoor and physical education settings. The latest "Come Learn With Us" session is dedicated to sharing with parents what Mathematical Development in the Early Years entails.
The Early Years Math Curriculum at Western International School of Shanghai emphasizes helping children learn various math concepts through hands-on activities. The program aims to build a strong foundation in math concepts through interactive activities, games, and exploration, preparing children for future math learning.
The recent ISTA Festival held at the Western International School of Shanghai, the hub for the arts in Shanghai, exemplified the transformative power of theater in creating a vibrant and inclusive community. Under the theme 'Tuning into our environments, our world and beyond,' students from various schools across Asia assembled to celebrate the legendary tale of 'Houyi and Chang'e - Goddess of the Moon.'
The festival served as a melting pot of voices, languages, and artistic expressions, showcasing the diversity and talent of middle school students from schools such as the American International School of Guangzhou, Beijing City International School, the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, ISA Science City International School, North London Collegiate School Jeju, and the Shanghai American School.
In today's digital age, the use of technology in education has become increasingly prevalent, with international schools at the forefront of integrating innovative tools to enhance learning experiences.
At the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS), the thoughtful integration of technology is a cornerstone of our educational approach. We believe that technology should be leveraged to enrich education while also recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between screen time and real-life interactions.
