At WISS, we believe strong home-school partnerships are essential to the success and well-being of our school’s ecosystem. Parental engagement positively impacts the educational achievement and development of our students. For this reason, WISS has created a calendar of parent engagement workshops to provide opportunities for parents to gain a deeper understanding for our school curriculum and our approach to student learning and development. This allows parents the knowledge and resources to better align home–school practices and support their child’s learning at home.
The WISS Academic Leadership Team has developed a series of workshops on various topics of interest for parents to be held on a regular basis over the course of this school year. The first parent engagement workshop will take place on the 2nd of November on “Language Development for the International Students”.
This interactive workshop will explore what language learning and teaching looks like in Primary and Early Years and provide hands-on engagements for parents to explore different approaches and learn about how we support literacy skill development at school. We are hopeful that these workshops will also serve as platforms for parents and members of our academic teams to engage in productive conversations about learning, fostering relationships based on mutual respect and trust to support our students’ success.
In addition to this, the Parents Association has organized a series of Cultural Connection workshops to take place over the course of this school year. These workshops led by parent volunteers serve as social opportunities for our parents to connect and make new friends while discovering a cultural celebration, tradition or activity from a home country that is represented within our diverse community. These workshops not only help to build a sense of community but also a sense a belonging amongst our parents.
