AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES
Afternoon activities are a mandatory part of the school day for Lower Elementary and Elementary students at the Western International School of Shanghai. Afternoon Activities are teacher-driven and based on our teachers sharing their hobbies, passions, and expertise with our students. Various activities are offered and led by our teachers ranging from yoga to rock climbing to cake boss.
The activities run on a 6-week block schedule, allowing students to sample 4 different activities throughout the year. These activities are built into the school day to allow students to try new activities and encourage them to embrace the IB learner trait of being a risk-taker in trying something new.
Lower Elementary students do their afternoon activities on Wednesdays, and Primary students on Fridays.

Athletics program
Our Athletics Program serves many purposes – giving our students a chance to make new friends, stay in shape, and compete athletically on a local and international level. Because we believe a healthy body is key to a healthy mind, athletics are a continuation of our school mission “Inspiring minds to shape the future.” Our Athletics Program is aligned with our school's objectives and promotes an environment of collaboration, perseverance, and integrity.
Our facilities, coaching staff, and broader WISS community all support the mission of our Athletics Program. At the Western International School of Shanghai, the WISS Tigers give our community a sense of pride and school spirit! PN- Grade 10 students have the opportunity to develop their sportsmanship, team building, and athletic skills through our Physical Health and Education courses. Still, our WISS Tigers take these skills to the next level through competition within our school and Shanghai communities!
