The Western International School of Shanghai recognizes that students may require additional support throughout their time at WISS. This support assists students in fully accessing the curriculum and programmes offered. Our Student Support Services Team collaborates with community members to help empower students to develop self-efficacy and independence and reach their full potential while discovering and nurturing their strengths. Student Support Services at WISS provide support in academic and social-emotional areas through the development of individualized support pathways designed and implemented by the faculty who work with that student.
Our Student Support Services does not diagnose or label students. It is a formalized approach to providing classroom-based practices and strategies to support all students. Student Support Services helps to fulfill the school’s mission to challenge and empower students through an outstanding WISS education that offers innovative, high-quality, inquiry-based learning and teaching with individualized student learning pathways.
Academic support in Lower Elementary is focused on language development, communication, motor skills, and sensory development.
In Elementary, academic support focuses on providing support with writing, reading, mathematical processing, following instructions, and developing attention skills for students who may have a need.
The Academic Support offered in Secondary emphasizes developing organizational skills, cultivating study habits, and time management. All of which are skills that support success on their journey beyond WISS.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTATION
Applications are completed through Open Apply and all requested documents are uploaded to the system.

• Completed application
• Copy of student birth certificate
• Copy of student and parent passports
• Copy of student and parent Shanghai residence permit, diplomatic visa, or letter from your employer affirming that a visa will be procured
• ID Photos (Head & Shoulder Passport Style photos) for each member of the family.
• Completed Medical Form and Immunization Records
Academic Records
School reports for the current and previous academic years (Certified translations into English are required for reports in other languages.)
• For PK- Kindergarten: school reports from the current year
• For Grades 1 – 8: school reports from the current and previous year
• For Grades 9 – 10: school reports from the current and previous 2 years
• For Grades 11 – 12: all school reports beginning from G9 including the current year
Supporting Documents
• Early Years Parent Questionnaire
• Confidential Principal/Teacher Recommendation Form
• Standardized test scores (if available)
• Relevant educational or medical evaluations, IEPs, or other reports about learning needs (if applicable)
