Nestled within the vibrant and bustling heart of Shanghai lies the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) - a place where enchantment and learning converge to create magic every day. Today, we are delighted to share the inspiring story of Katherine Langford, a dedicated educator from Canada, who embodies our series theme, "Greatness Starts With Attitude."
Katherine's decision to join WISS was sparked by the enchanting atmosphere she experienced upon her first visit. The school's environment, resources, and learning spaces exuded a sense of magic that was irresistible. But the real magic, as Catherine discovered, begins each day with the interactions between the educators, parents, and students. It's in these moments that the school's ethos of sincerity and kindness truly shines.
The Western International School of Shanghai recently hosted a collaborative exhibition featuring students' impressive work in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) courses. These courses are integral components of the IB Diploma and IB Career-Related Programmes offered as part of the WISS Education.
In the next installment of our Greatness Starts With Attitude series, we connect with a proud WISS parent and international business leader, Michael Oviedo. Michael is from the United States and is the United States, and his two children have been part of the Western International School of Shanghai community for the past couple of years. His journey has been a winding path shaped by experiences, aspirations, and unexpected twists. From his early dreams of becoming a college professor to his current role as an industry leader in the collectibles and authentication industry, he has learned that greatness does indeed start with one’s attitude.
The transition to Grade One holds immense significance for our Kindergarten students. One key element of a successful transition lies in developing foundational skills acquired during their Early Years experience. These skills span various domains, including language, literacy, numeracy, social-emotional growth, and cognitive development. By focusing on these fundamental skills, our educators empower students to build a robust academic and social-emotional foundation during these crucial early years—an essential support system as they progress through their educational journey.
The WISS Graduation Ceremony 2024 was a night filled with joy, pride, and celebration as the school community came together to honor the accomplishments of the graduating class. The evening commenced with an inspiring Opening Address by Mr. David Edwards, Head of School, who welcomed the graduates, their families, and esteemed guests. His words set the tone for the event, marking the beginning of a memorable evening.
As the Class of 2024 took their seats, the entire WISS community erupted in cheers and applause, celebrating the achievements of the graduates. The school anthem echoed through the theatre, with students singing together in reflection of their journey at WISS, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie among all present.

The Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) recently wrapped up its annual Arts Week, a vibrant celebration held from May 20th to 24th that brought the community together in a shared appreciation for the arts. This year's event was a resounding success, showcasing the artistic talents of students across various disciplines and providing an enriching experience for all who attended.
Throughout the week, the WISS campus was alive with the sound of music, as student performances showcased an impressive range of musical genres. From classical pieces to modern pop hits, each performance was a testament to the student's hard work and passion for music. The melodies that filled the halls were a constant reminder of the joy and unity that music can bring.

The WISS Academy recently hosted an exhilarating Demo Day, bringing together partner vendors and showcasing a diverse array of offerings. From academics to sports, arts, and technology, the event was a resounding success.
Led by esteemed partners MAD Science and Future Keys, the Academic Programmes at the WISS Academy introduced students to innovative learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Students explored, experimented, and cultivated critical thinking skills.
