Why should parents attend parenting workshops?

A parent's role is one of the most difficult that exists. There are no perfect parents. Sometimes it is a rewarding task and responsibility; other times, it is challenging. Being a parent requires large doses of patience, perseverance, consistency, listening, and affectivity. Good parenting involves meeting children's basic needs, keeping them safe, showing warmth and love, providing the necessary stimulus for their development, and helping them reach their potential within a stable environment where they experience consistent guidance and boundaries.

"Movember" Services Action at WISS

November has become Movember at the Western International School of Shanghai. The charity campaign runs throughout November and has become an annual tradition at WISS, with staff members and students doing their bit for the cause every year.

The Movember Foundation was founded in 2003 to allow men to live happier, healthier, and longer lives. Since 2003, it has raised over $6 billion, funding men's research projects and health programs related to physical inactivity, mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

WISS Career-Related Studies | Reflective Project

The IB Career-related Programme has four elements: Language Development, Service Learning, Personal and Professional Skills, and the Reflective Project. These elements are known as the CP Core.

The Reflective Project is a 3,000-word assignment focusing on an ethical dilemma within the student’s career-related study. As our Grade 12 students finalize these projects, our Grade 11 students prepare for them by learning about ethics in their Personal and Professional Skills class.

It is well documented that children's intellectual and emotional development is enhanced through the study of arts. At the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS), Arts are essential in our multifaceted, well-rounded education.

The WISS curriculum is built on four pillars: Academics, Sports, Arts, and Community Service. As a school, we believe that all students have the potential to develop creatively. We provide them with opportunities to function as artists and learners of the arts. Learning about and through arts is fundamental to the development of the whole child, promoting the ability to think creatively and critically. Creative thinking encourages students to explore the unfamiliar and experiment innovatively to develop their artistic intentions, processes, and work.

Exploring Elements of the IB Diploma Programme

It took thousands of scientists and engineers from around the world to spend countless personnel hours and billions of dollars to successfully launch NASA's Perseverance mission to Mars. This audacious project was designed to place a remote-controlled vehicle on the planet's surface to study the rock record to better understand the geologic processes that sculpted the Martian crust.

New tools, equipment delivery techniques, and computer systems were developed by teams consisting of members speaking different languages on multiple continents. For this mission to achieve its goals, experts in astronomy, rocket propulsion, electrical engineering, and photography had to share ideas and collaborate. Although WISS won't be launching students into space any time soon, our Diploma Programme (DP) science department will challenge them to emulate NASA's team through their "Surviving on Mars" group 4 project.
