Lights, Camera, Action: Celebrating the Best of the Best at the Shanghai Students Film Festival.
The Shanghai Students Film Festival is one of the year's most anticipated events for student filmmakers in China. The festival, organized by Mr. Simon Jackson, WISS’s talented Head of Visual and Creative Arts, celebrates the best student films produced by the most talented young filmmakers nationwide, providing a platform for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talents work and network with industry professionals.
Now in its 16th year, the Shanghai Student Film Festival (S2F2) symbolizes creativity, innovation, and hope for the future. Every year the students’ work becomes more professional and groundbreaking, often going on to win awards in far larger international festivals. The festival brings together talents from international schools across China who compete through various film challenges.
Poetry can be seen as a form of self-expression – a way for people to share their thoughts, feelings, and emotions creatively and uniquely. For many, poetry can be a therapeutic outlet, providing a space to explore personal thoughts and experiences. It can also be a way to connect with others, sharing stories and perspectives in a way that can create understanding and connection.
Poetry can take many forms, from traditional rhyming verse to free-form or experimental pieces. There are no rules or boundaries, which can make writing a very freeing and liberating form. Whether you're looking to express yourself creatively, explore your emotions, or connect with others, poetry can be a powerful tool.
What springs to mind when you think about your hometown? Some view their hometown as a place of origin, or an eventual destination, while others consider it to be an experience on the journey that is life.As an international school that plays host to students from all corners of the globe, the notion of a hometown is somewhat foreign.
In international school communities, many families tend to be more nomadic and often travel to and live in different countries and cities, immersed in the local culture. These families don’t tend to develop an overly emotional attachment to their current “home.”Although a highly enriching experience for families.
Gavin and Jack are two WISS students from Grade 8 who have a shared passion – they shape their thoughts by creating beautiful words. When we asked them to participate in the recent writing competition run by Shanghai Family, they were happy to contribute and apply their skills. Like true WISSians, they explore every opportunity to develop their passions in learning and in life.
Today’s Tiger Pride goes to our WISS High School Girls Basketball team, which recently won the ACAMIS Basketball Tournament.
It is the first time WISS has participated in an Athletic Event at ACAMIS, and the results couldn’t be better. Achieving “Balance” is one of the ten attributes IB Learners acquire through a WISS Education. Discovering that state of equilibrium as a student where you effectively manage your study priorities and participation in sports is precisely what we as a school encourage.
At WISS, we believe that athletics is an integral part of the school setting. We are committed to offering team sports designed to broaden the experiences of our students. The WISS Athletics Program serves many purposes, offering students the opportunity to collaborate, communicate, build relationships, develop a healthy lifestyle while fostering sportsmanship by competing athletically on a local and international level.
The WISS Athletics Basketball teams recently participated in the ACAMIS competition, and both teams played with a TON of Tiger Spirit and Tiger Pride.
