A key annual event on the horizon for students is the highly anticipated GAIL Conference 2024, set to take place amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Amazon jungle later this year. Hosted by Newton College in Peru, this conference is focused on sustainability and promises to be a transformative gathering of passionate students and educators from around the world.

One recent collaboration involved the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) and The Woodstock School in India, where students participated in a remarkable Spanish class led by a travel agent from Lima, Peru.

This exceptional opportunity provided students with a rich language learning experience and introduced them to the tourism industry and its profound impact on the global economy. Taught by a highly experienced and passionate tourism agent based in Lima, Peru, the session offered students an immersive and authentic learning experience. Through engaging discussions in Spanish, interactive activities, and real-world case studies, students gained valuable insights into the intricacies of the tourism industry and its effects on local communities, economies, and the environment.

The Spanish class saw active participation from students across different grade levels at WISS. Grade 9 students studying Spanish Language and Literature and Language Acquisition and Grade 11 and 12 students enrolled in Spanish B and Spanish Ab Initio all had the opportunity to engage in this enriching learning experience. The collaborative nature of the class perfectly aligned with the objectives of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, providing students with an avenue to develop global-mindedness and intercultural understanding.
