At the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS), the transitional journeys of students play a pivotal role in shaping their educational experiences. These transitions are not mere shifts in grades but well-thought-out processes that aim to seamlessly integrate students into the school environment from the moment they step foot on campus. The support provided by teachers, peers, and buddies ensures that students feel welcomed and nurtured throughout their tenure at WISS. One of the notable milestones in a student's journey at WISS is the transition between sub-schools, such as from Early Years to Primary and from Primary to Secondary. Within the Primary school, students build upon their Early Years experiences, fostering maturity and academic preparedness for their Secondary journey. These transitions are meticulously planned to make each learning environment feel familiar and welcoming, creating a sense of unity among students across different grade levels.

The support provided by teachers, peers, and buddies ensures that students feel welcomed and nurtured throughout their tenure at WISS.

One of the notable milestones in a student's journey at WISS is the transition between sub-schools, such as from Early Years to Primary and from Primary to Secondary. Within the Primary school, students build upon their Early Years experiences, fostering maturity and academic preparedness for their Secondary journey. These transitions are meticulously planned to make each learning environment feel familiar and welcoming, creating a sense of unity among students across different grade levels.

WISS implements various support measures to facilitate these transitions, such as buddy classes and 'Step Up Day' events. For example, Grade Five students participate in a 'Step Up Day' in Secondary, where they explore new classes and start preparing for the next phase of their academic life. Similarly, Kindergarten students visit Grade One classrooms, interact with their future teachers and buddies, and receive a glimpse of their upcoming learning environment.

As an international school with a transient population, WISS also focuses on supporting students preparing to leave the school, ensuring a smooth transition back to their home countries, universities, or new locations. The school's commitment to guiding students through these changes reflects its ethos of providing seamless and supportive pathways for each student's journey.

Recognizing that change can be daunting for students, especially when transitioning to new grade levels or sub-schools, WISS emphasizes creating a supportive environment for students and their families during these critical milestones. Through a comprehensive approach involving meetings, information sessions, and experiential days, the school community aims to guide students through these transitions with care and consideration.

Most recently, Grade 10 students at WISS engaged in informational sessions to explore the different academic pathways within the IB Diploma Programme and IB Career-Related Programme available to them, preparing them for their future educational endeavors. Parents are also actively involved in this process, with information sessions that give them insights into their child's academic milestones.

Furthermore, our Grade 6 students welcomed their Grade 5 peers during a recent 'Step-Up Day,' fostering connections and familiarity within the school community to ease the transition for younger students. By providing structured support and guidance, WISS aims to instill confidence in students and empower them to embrace change as an opportunity for growth and development.

The nurturing of student transitions at WISS is a vital component of the school's educational philosophy. By navigating these transitions together, the school community ensures that every student feels supported and prepared for the exciting journey that awaits them.

拥抱多样性：全球创新学习联盟会议在新西兰奥克兰举行

全球创新学习联盟（GAIL）是一个著名的学校网络，致力于促进教育领域的创新、合作和文化交流。上海西华外籍人员子女学校（WISS）很荣幸成为全球创新学习联盟（GAIL）的成员，并兴奋地宣布将参加即将在新西兰奥克兰举行的全球创新学习联盟会议。此次会议为上海西方国际学校的学生提供了一次难得的机会，他们将在校长 David Edwards 先生、学术与创新部主任 Timothy Pyeon 先生和设计教师 Nwanneka Okwuosa 女士的陪同下，与其他 GAIL 成员学校共同促进多元化发展。
