A parent's role is one of the most difficult that exists. There are no perfect parents. Sometimes it is a rewarding task and responsibility; other times, it is challenging. Being a parent requires large doses of patience, perseverance, consistency, listening, and affectivity. Good parenting involves meeting children's basic needs, keeping them safe, showing warmth and love, providing the necessary stimulus for their development, and helping them reach their potential within a stable environment where they experience consistent guidance and boundaries.

Attending parent workshops is one of the most effective ways of preparing for and handling difficult parenting moments. Parent workshops help experienced and inexperienced parents learn what to expect at each stage of their child's development, stay abreast of the latest research in child development parenting skills, and practice positive guidance.

Today's society is far more complex than before and is continuing to change. The advent of the technology age is one of the significant changes we contend with every day. Parent workshops provide scientific data on how our children develop in this technological world. For example, attending a parent workshop on screen time can help you understand why using devices can be unhealthy for children, how much is too much, and what a balance between offline and online activities looks like.

On the other hand, most parents do the best they can for their children, but no one has all the answers. So, it helps in being open to new strategies. For example, attending a parenting workshop could give you additional ideas on enhancing your relationship with your child or learning new techniques for eliciting cooperation from your child. So, these forums educate parents on what is effective or beneficial for children.

The Western International School of Shanghai is committed to the education of its entire community. Each year, WISS prepares a series of workshops for parents to inform and educate them about the different programs and/or educational paths offered by the school. We also address topics of interest related to language development, transition stages, and the support provided to our students.
